Medical Assistant
Location: Hagerstown, MarylandJob Type: Full-TimeWe are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team in a substance use and mental health office. The ideal candidate will support our clinical staff in providing high-quality care to individuals facing substance use disorders and mental health challenges. This role requires strong communication skills, empathy, and a commitment to promoting wellness and recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care: Assist with the intake process, including collecting patient histories, measuring vital signs, and documenting patient information accurately.
- Clinical Support: Prepare and assist during patient examinations, procedures, and treatments as directed by healthcare providers.
- Medication Management: Help manage medication refills/deliveries, update medication logs, submit prior authorizations for medications, and maintain accurate records of patient prescriptions and treatments.
- Therapeutic Environment: Create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for patients, ensuring confidentiality and respect for their dignity.
- Administrative Duties: Schedule appointments, manage patient records, and coordinate referrals to other healthcare providers or services as needed.
- Collaboration: Work closely with psychiatric and family nurse practitioners to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Patient Education: Provide information and resources to patients regarding their treatment options, coping strategies, and community support services.
- Crisis Management: Recognize and respond appropriately to crisis situations, ensuring patient safety and well-being.
Qualifications
- Medical Assistant certification required
- Experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in mental health or substance use treatment, is preferred.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and support diverse populations.
